Have you downloaded a live video app like Periscope, Meerkat, Hang w/, or Beepcast? Have you even heard of them?

Chances are you’ve at least heard of Periscope and/or Meerkat and maybe you’ve downloaded one of them. There’s a high chance you may have even watched someone’s live broadcast. If you’re new to these live video apps pay close attention because you’re younger consumers are definitely in the know when it comes to mobile livestreaming apps.

According to an article by AdWeek, Periscope announced that it now has more than 10 million users after just four and a half months of existence. That’s about 75,000 new users per day!

More than half of those new users are estimated to be age 18-34. Periscope is owned by Twitter and has essentially set the bar for mobile livestreaming. There are other competitors like Meerkat, which hasn’t reported its number of users since May (2 Million).

While apps like Periscope are still growing and their overall user base isn’t staggering … yet, the amount of time those users spend watching live video is already massive. According to Periscope, its 10 Million users consume about 40 years worth of livestreaming footage every day! That equals 21 million minutes every day.

According to Ad Week, celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, Tyra Banks and Al Roker use the livestreaming app regularly, which has helped boost viewership. Periscope is putting emphasis on the “time watched” metric as the key thing to monitor during its continued growth. We’ll be watching.
